The Best Engagement Photo Locations in Los Angeles
March 15, 2025

Los Angeles might be the best engagement-photo city in the country. Within an hour's drive you can go from palm-lined lakes to Spanish architecture to dramatic ocean cliffs, all bathed in that famous California light. After photographing couples all over the city, these are the engagement photo locations in LA I keep coming back to, and how to think about choosing the right one for you.
Echo Park Lake
Right in the heart of the city, Echo Park Lake mixes nature and skyline in a way few places can: a calm lake, palm-lined paths, swan boats, and downtown LA rising in the background. It's relaxed, walkable, and endlessly photogenic. I recently photographed Jenn and Ben's golden-hour engagement session here, and the light coming off the water at sunset was unreal.
Pasadena City Hall
If you love timeless, architectural backdrops, Pasadena City Hall is hard to beat. The arches, courtyards, and European-inspired details photograph beautifully at any time of day, even in full sun. It feels classic and elegant without needing much else.
Chinatown After Dark
For couples who want something cinematic and different, Chinatown at night is magic. Glowing red lanterns, neon signs, and quiet streets after the shops close create a moody, film-like atmosphere you can't get during the day.
Griffith Observatory and Griffith Park
Griffith gives you two looks in one: the iconic observatory with sweeping city views, and the surrounding park's trails and tree-lined paths for something more natural. Sunset here, with the LA basin glittering below, is a classic for a reason.
Malibu and El Matador Beach
When couples want drama, the coast delivers. El Matador's sea caves and rock formations, or any of the Malibu beaches, give you crashing waves, golden cliffs, and wide-open sky. Time it for sunset and it's breathtaking.
The Arts District, Downtown LA
For an urban, editorial feel, the Downtown Arts District brings brick warehouses, murals, string lights, and rooftop skyline views. It's perfect for couples whose style leans modern and a little bit cool.
How to Choose Your Engagement Location
Start with the feeling you want your photos to have, natural and relaxed, classic and elegant, or bold and cinematic, and let that guide you. Think about where you actually spend time together, and don't underestimate the power of good light: golden hour makes almost any LA location sing.
