Mother’s Day Mini Sessions in Los Angeles
Mother’s Day is one of those rare moments when families actually get a chance to slow down and enjoy time together. As a Los Angeles family photographer, it’s one of my favorite times of year to capture parents and kids just being themselves.
This spring, I hosted a series of Mother’s Day mini sessions in Los Angeles, and the experience couldn’t have been better. Over two weekends, I photographed families at a few different parks around LA, including Lake Balboa at Anthony C. Beilenson Park, which gave us some great variety in scenery and light.
Simple, Natural Family Photos
Each mini session was about 20 minutes long, which was the perfect amount of time for families with little kids or packed weekend schedules. The goal was to keep things low-pressure. I gave light direction when needed, but mostly focused on capturing real moments. No stiff posing required.
One of my favorite sessions was with a mom of three young kids. The kids were all over the place in the best way, and instead of trying to make them sit still, we let them be themselves. The photos we got from that shoot were some of the most genuine and fun of the weekend.
That’s what I aim for with every family portrait session in Los Angeles. Real connection, real expressions, and photos that feel like you.
Beautiful Light and Natural Settings
The parks we used had open skies, soft greenery, and lots of space to move around. Lake Balboa especially had great light in the late afternoon. As someone who specializes in natural light family photography in Los Angeles, I’m always looking for spots that feel easy and open, and these locations delivered.
What to Wear for Family Photos
Most families came in neutral tones or coordinating pastels, which photographed really well in the soft light. Some went for brighter colors, and that worked too. I always tell clients to wear something comfortable that feels like them. We also had some matching denim jackets that worked out so well with the colors of the scene! If you’re not sure what works best, I’m happy to help with outfit planning ahead of time.
Why Mini Sessions Are a Great Option
Mini family photo sessions in Los Angeles are perfect if you want high-quality images without committing to a full shoot. They’re fast, affordable, and focused, and they make a great gift, especially for Mother’s Day. You end up with a handful of photos that really capture where your family is right now.
Want In Next Time?
If you missed this round of LA mini sessions, no problem. I’ll be offering more throughout the year. Fall is usually the busiest season, especially with families looking for updated portraits before the holidays, so getting on the waitlist early is a good idea.
And if you want something more customized, you can always book a full family portrait session in Los Angeles. These are longer sessions that give us more time, more flexibility, and more freedom to explore different locations or shoot at your home.
